Supporting People Service
Supporting People is a government initiative which started in 2003 to help people maintain their independence. If you live in your own home, setoncare call this service Community Support. If you live in Berwickshire Housing Association sheltered accommodation, we call it Housing Support. Wherever you live, you will receive the same high level of service, tailored to your needs.
What will my Support Worker do for me?
At an initial meeting we will discuss your needs and agree a personalised support plan with you. This will set out the type of help your Support Worker will give you. It could include:
- Arranging repairs of appliances and for tradesmen to call
- Helping with budgeting, form filling and basic advice on benefits
- Carrying out minor repairs, such as changing lightbulbs and unblocking sinks
- Making appointments with doctors, collecting prescriptions and doing occasional shopping
- Arranging for adaptations to be carried out, such as handrails and bath seats
- Helping with moving home and resettlement
A Support Worker is not a Home Carer, and will not undertake personal care tasks such as helping with dressing, bathing and getting to the toilet. If you require this level of care, find out about our Home Care service.
How much will it cost?
If you receive Housing Benefit and need the Supporting People service, you will not be charged. If you do not receive Housing Benefit, there is a charge. Contact us to find out more.
What if my needs change?
Your support plan can be reviewed and changed if necessary. It is important to us that you get the support you need.
How long can I get this support?
The support will last as long as you need it. This can be short term, perhaps to tide you over a difficult period, or for the long term.
